MARIA de BUENOS AIRES is an abstract telling of the evolution of tango personified in the character of Maria. Her journey and exploration of the self parallels the tango being a dance of the streets and the low-lifes that abound in the slums of Buenos Aires to its rise in popularity. The street thugs dance in concert with the prostitutes, and Maria finds herself drawn into this world. This life ultimately kills her and she becomes reborn with a deeper understanding of her sexuality, her feminine power, and her ability to direct and choose her own path.
